Vanmechelen introduces the new edition of his magazine “The Accident”. Central theme of this second publication is “Islands”. A theme that relates closely to what he calls the leading subject of the 21st century; diversity and hybridity. The magazine calls upon scientists who bridge their different domains of expertise and therefore dare to leave their islands to gain new insights.
Also including are contributions about and from Belgian beta-scientists who work together with Koen Vanmechelen.
Afterwards Vanmechelen will debate the theme of diversity with scientists Jean-Jacques Cassiman, Luc Vrielinck, Peter Adriaenssens and curator Mike Phillips. All debaters participate in one way or another in three larger projects that together make out Vanmechelens oeuvre: Cosmopolitan Chicken Project, CosmoGolem and Walking Egg.
